Learn the second step in the process of making pottery on the wheel - trimming (or 'turning' as it is also known)

Trimming is the process of refining the shape of your pot and getting it to a standard ready to be fired. It involves literally 'trimming' away excess clay, adding foot rings, defining the final shape and adding handles and surface texture where required.

If you've attended our Intro to Wheel-throwing workshop or Beginner Plus Wheel-Throwing workshop, you'll work on your own pots in this session. However, you do not need to have attended a past workshop to attend this class. We will have pots ready for you to work on!

In this trimming class you'll learn:

  • How to measure the wall and base thickness of a pot
  • How to add a foot ring to your pot
  • How to centre and attach your pot to the wheel for trimming
  • How to trim, plus various trimming techniques
  • Techniques for adding surface texture

Please note, we are working with already formed pots; we aren't throwing pots on the wheel in this class.

Class sizes are small (3-4 people), so you're guaranteed to receive personalised guidance and plenty of hands-on assistance.

The course includes:

  • Full tuition
  • All tools and materials
  • One-on-one feedback and assistance
  • Option to keep up to two pieces of work - for you to continue working on in our Glazing workshop, or to be glazed by Lucy Jane Ceramics for collection at a later date (or shipping at an additional cost)
  • Firing of work

Our pottery workshops and courses are held at our home studio, located in Porepunkah, VIC.

This class is part of our Build Your Own Course program. Book any combination of our Build Your Own Course workshops upfront and save.

Not sure how many classes you want to attend? Stay flexible and pay as you go - all of our classes are designed to be attended as standalone classes so you can attend as many as you like, when you like.
